Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) was used to analyze the composition changes of inclusions during refining. After Al deoxidation, the inclusions in molten steel are mainly A12O3 inclusions. The content of MgO and CaO in inclusions increases gradually with the addition of desulfurizer. Inclusions gradually change into MgOA12O3 spinel inclusions and CaO-MgO-A12O3 composite inclusions. At the end of RH treatment, the inclusion composition is located in the low melting point region of the phase diagram.

Similarly, with the increase of [Ca] in molten steel, [Ca] reacts with Al_2O_3 in inclusions, resulting in the gradual increase of CaO in inclusions. After A12O3 inclusions are converted into low melting point inclusions, they can grow through droplet condensation, which is much faster than solid inclusions. In addition, the adsorptive capacity of ladle top slag to liquid inclusions is much greater than that of solid inclusions, which is conducive to the removal of inclusions.
