Dom is the abbreviation of drawing mandrel. It means that welded steel pipe is processed by deep drawing or cold rolling to obtain high quality steel pipe with small dimension tolerance and good mechanical properties. Because of its small size tolerance and good mechanical properties, steel pipes are well used in automotive applications, high-pressure pumps, high-speed rollers and drafting pipes of textile machinery.

DOM pipes are obtained from welded pipes by cold welding (or cold rolling). Cold drawing process is the process of yield and plastic deformation of pipe metal, which will lead to work hardening of pipe metal. Mechanical properties usually deteriorate after cold drawing. Cold drawing results in reduced plasticity and improved strength and hardness. These performance changes after cold drawing will reduce the bearing capacity of DOM tubes and reduce the safety of use. In the cold drawing process, if the process parameters are not selected properly, it is easy to crack on the surface of the tube, which will significantly reduce the bearing capacity of DOM tube. In severe cases, the tube will break during cold drawing.


2. Geometric accuracy
There is no doubt that DOM pipe is produced by cold drawing (or cold rolling) of the base pipe, and its geometric accuracy is very high.
