The main advantages of pipeline transportation can be summarized as follows:
(1) Large volume.
Oil pipelines can continue to deliver. According to its diameter, its annual traffic volume can reach millions to tens of millions of tons, or even more than 100 million tons.
(2) Small area.
Transportation pipelines are usually buried underground and occupy very little land. The construction of transportation system proves that the buried part of pipelines accounts for more than 95% of the total length of pipelines, so the land occupied permanently is very small, 3% of highways, about 10% of railways. In the transportation planning system, it is important to give priority to the pipeline transportation scheme for the protection of land resources.
(3) The construction period of pipeline transportation is short and the cost is low.
A large number of transportation system construction practices at home and abroad have proved that the construction period of pipeline transportation system is the same as that of railway construction, with a general shortage of more than one third. Historically, the length of China's oil pipeline from Daqing to Qinhuangdao is 1152 kilometers, only 23 months, and a railway with the same traffic volume has been built. (4) Pipeline transportation is safe and reliable with strong continuity.
Because oil and natural gas are flammable, explosive, volatile, pipeline transportation is safe and can greatly reduce volatilization losses, and also can greatly reduce the leakage caused by air, water and soil pollution. That is to say, pipeline transportation can better meet the requirements of environmental protection in transportation engineering. In addition, because pipeline is basically buried underground, its transportation process is harsh and changeable weather. The condition has little influence, which can ensure the long-term stable operation of the transportation system.
(5) Pipeline transportation has low energy consumption, low cost and good benefit.
Developed countries use pipelines to transport oil, which consumes less than one-seventh of a ton per kilometer of railway energy. It is close to a large number of transportation costs and water transportation. Therefore, pipeline transportation is one of the most energy-saving transportation modes under the condition of water-free. The theoretical analysis and practical experience prove that the bigger the pipe diameter, the farther the transportation distance, the larger the transportation volume, the higher the transportation cost, the higher the transportation cost and the higher the transportation cost.
